Madayikavu, near Pazhayangadi in Kannur, is a prominent temple dedicated to Goddess Kali. There are countless legends and stories associated with the temple. The temple is one of the most famous Bhadrakali shrines of North Kerala and is also known as Thiruvar Kadu Bhagavathi Temple. For devotees the temple is the last resort for removing troubles related to the occult and witchcraft. The temple is also popular for the Theyyam festival conducted annually. Theyyam festivals are often known by the name Kaliyattam or Perumkaliyattam, which falls in the Malayalam month of Idavam (April/May). The festival is a fascinating medley of colours and cultures.
